From Local to Global

by Ian on May 12, 2011

Today marks the beginning of a planned expansion of Attenture’s core business, assisting NZ & Australian ‘born’ Technology companies get established and/or rapidly accelerate their growth in the USA.

An illustrator friend of mine created this image. It’s based on the metaphor of the Black Swan.

According to Wikipedia – The Black Swan Theory or Theory of Black Swan Events is a metaphor that encapsulates the concept that The event is a surprise (to the observer) and has a major impact. After the fact, the event is rationalized by hindsight.

Black Swans were first discovered in Australia in the 18th Century. The Black Swan is also of spiritual significance in the traditional histories of many Australian Aboriginal peoples across southern Australia

I think it is true enough to say that Australian & NZ technology companies that became Local Heroes and then became even bigger cheeses in the USA and globally are the Outliers – the exception rather than the rule – very surprising occurrences – like Black Swans.

I have been immersed in the USA market and culture since 1996 when my first technology venture, Constellar Corporation, out of London England, got major funding from Silicon Valley Venture Capital – and the rest is history !

I came to New Zealand in 2002 and have since become increasingly immersed in working with the disproportionately high percentage per capita of tech entrepreneurial talent here and in Australia – helping them get beyond small local to big global – creating marketing concepts and approaches that USA business audiences love and leveraging our huge database of senior level contacts throughout USA Corporations of all sizes and industries.

So if you know any Aus or NZ entrepreneurs who have made a local splash with their cool Tech – and who’d like a leg up in the USA, send them here
